Sartell & Sauk Rapids Police

The Sartell and Sauk Rapids Police Departments and the Stearns, Benton, and Sherburne County Sheriff’s Offices have partnered with Dairy Queen, AAA, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation Towards Zero Deaths initiative to hand out “tickets” to local kids who are “caught” wearing a helmet while skateboard, biking, roller skating, or riding a scooter.

Stearns County Assistant Chief Deputy Dan Miller believes the program helps build relationships between the communities and officers: “Our deputies are getting out there and they’re finding these kids and rewarding them for taking that extra step and putting that helmet on and hopefully protecting them if something terrible would happen. It’s a great way to reward kids for doing the right thing. And it’s an excellent way for our deputies to interact with the kids and have those positive contacts with kids, and it gives them a different look, and they don’t look at us negatively and can be just a good community engagement thing.”

“Citations” for Dairy Queen ice cream cones will be issued all summer, so be sure to wear your helmets if you’re out on wheels in Benton, Stearns, and Sherburne Counties! Thank you to all of the peace officers and sheriff’s deputies who are going above and beyond to build these relationships with those they protect & serve.

In gratitude,
