Most Minnesotans know that our agriculture industry is a huge part of who we are as a state. In much of Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District you typically don’t have to drive more than five minutes or so to pass a farm of some sort. We are the third largest pork producing state, are ranked fourth nationally in soybean exports, and are among the top ten exporters of dairy.
The men and women who work on our farms are some of the hardest workers I’ve ever met. Often getting up before dawn, working through dismal weather conditions, and rarely taking vacations, our farmers provide nutritious food, good jobs, and necessary revenue to our economy.
June is National Dairy Month to recognize this crucial industry and all it does for our country. Here in Minnesota, our dairy industry is impressive and is the second largest livestock sector in our state. In fact, Minnesota has produced more than nine billion pounds of milk annually for the past five years.
It’s important we support our agriculture industry and work to introduce and reform policies that will help, not hinder, future potential. I am committed to do just that in Washington.
To show our support for our farmers, our campaign will be featuring a farm family on Fridays over the next few months. So go visit my Facebook or Twitter to see the farm of the week!
Join me in celebrating our dairy industry this month with a cold glass of milk or a delicious ice cream cone on a hot summer day!
