Congressman Tom Emmer Announces his #ThankACop Initiative

Otsego, MN – Today, Sixth District Congressman Tom Emmer is beginning his #ThankACop initiative. In the wake of increased scrutiny of law enforcement following the death of George Floyd, law enforcement officers in Minnesota are facing low morale and increased recruitment difficulties.

“The goal here is simple: while the public debates issues of police reform, we all need to take a step back and realize what our peace officers do for all of us and our communities every single day. While many are out on the streets putting their lives on the line for us, others are organizing prescription drug take back programs, doing community outreach, fighting sex trafficking rings, and generally making our streets safer for our kids to play on. Now more than ever, we need to reach out and simply show gratitude because without them, our communities would not be the places we call home,” Emmer said.

“Everyone knows a law enforcement officer, and they come from all different backgrounds and beliefs. We just want to encourage people to recognize law enforcement officers for all that they do.”

The #ThankACop campaign will highlight individual officers from Minnesota on a weekly basis as well as bring attention to the work that peace officers do to keep those they have sworn to protect and serve out of harm’s way.

Carpenters, Pipe Fitters, and 49ers Proudly Endorse Tom Emmer for Congress in MN-06

The North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters (NCSRCC), the Minnesota Pipe Trades Association, and the Local 49 Operating Engineers have endorsed Tom Emmer’s reelection campaign to Congress to continue representing Minnesota’s Sixth District.

“The Carpenters believe that we should back candidates based on their record and their support of our members and their families,” said Adam Duininck, the Director of Government Affairs for the Carpenters Union. “While serving in Congress, Rep. Emmer has been a strong ally and partner on many issues from apprenticeship programs, job-creating infrastructure bills and policies, as well as core issues like Davis-Bacon and collective bargaining rights. His record of support for our members has earned our organization’s support.”

“The Minnesota Pipe Trades supports candidates who support us on our issues,” said David Ybarra, the President of the Minnesota Pipe Trades. “Rep. Emmer has voted in support of Davis-Bacon prevailing wage and believes that if you work in the construction trade, you should earn a good, middle-class living.”

“Transportation funding is also a top priority for Congressman Emmer as he has authored legislation to prioritize funding for several transportation related projects, improving Minnesota’s roads, highways, and bridges while creating jobs for Operating Engineers and other skilled crafts,” said Jason George of the Local 49 Operating Engineers.

“The construction trades are the heart and soul of America,” said Emmer. “I’m honored to receive these endorsements. Thank you to the NCSRCC, the Minnesota Pipe Trades Association, and the Local 49 Operating Engineers for all you do to build our country.”

US Chamber of Commerce Endorses Congressman Tom Emmer

The US Chamber of Commerce has again endorsed Congressman Tom Emmer’s reelection to Congress. The Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation and represents the interests of over three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Chamber of Commerce,” said Emmer. “Giving businesses the support they need to help Minnesotans get back to work and rebuild our economy remains one of my top priorities. If we are to create a climate which affords Americans the maximum opportunity to succeed, supporting businesses is essential.”

According to Thomas Donohue, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, “The Chamber endorses pro-business leaders in Congress and vigorously supports policies that advance economic growth, help create jobs, and promote fiscal responsibility. Last year the House passed the USMCA, renewed the charter of the Export-Import Bank, reauthorized Terrorism Risk Insurance, and restored critical resources for highway funding. While just a snapshot of important House activity in 2019, your lifetime percentage on the Chamber’s How They Voted scorecard was the driving factor in achieving this endorsement for 2020.

In challenging times, we are reminded of the importance of having leaders who understand the genius of the American system of government and free enterprise and who are willing to tackle the hard problems that confront our nation. Your continued leadership in Congress will benefit the nation as we combat the coronavirus, work to restore economic growth, and expand opportunities for all Americans.”
