Yesterday marked the last day of session for the U.S. House of Representatives until September. (The same does not hold true for the U.S. Senate, who will stay in Washington through August due to historic obstruction by the Democrats.)

As I headed back to Minnesota to continue working in the district, I reflected on the House’s accomplishments so far for you and your family. After years of struggling to not just get ahead, but to keep up, Americans are finally starting to see opportunity, jobs and confidence come back.

House Republicans have taken the lead to ensure we delivered on the promises we made. Now, America is stronger both here at home and overseas, with a booming economy, skyrocketing optimism in the future, and safer communities.

With $1.5 billion allocated for physical barriers and technology along the border and 90+ miles of border wall so far, I feel confident we are on the right path to securing our borders and keeping this country safe.

Following the biggest tax cuts in three decades, paychecks are bigger and wages are rising, job openings are at records highs, unemployment is at record lows, and just today we learned our economy’s GDP hit 4.1%.

Since November 2016, nearly 4 million new jobs have been created and 54% of Americans say the economy is “good” or “excellent” – the highest in survey history.

When I watched the President sign S. 2155, the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act into law at the White House, I felt a sense of pride knowing that this roll-back of Dodd-Frank’s most harmful provisions would help Main Street Minnesota flourish and provide aspiring entrepreneurs the access to capital they need to get their new business off the ground.

It feels like America is finally making a comeback.

Make no mistake, there is still a lot to accomplish. Government spending remains out of control, and I will continue to vote against bloated omnibus bills. We need to put the final nails in the coffin of Obamacare and pass a immigration plan that doesn’t reward illegal behavior.  But with the constant stream of bad news from the media, I wanted to share the progress we’ve made so far as the majority.

I will keep fighting to bring Midwest values to Washington, but now it’s time to meet with and listen to people of Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District.  It’s good to be back in the Land of 10,000 Lakes!
