#ThankACop: Officer Arik Matson

On January 6, 2020, Officer Arik Matson (Age 32) and two other Waseca police officers responded to a call about a suspicious person. The officers did not know on that cold and snowy night that the suspect had an active warrant for arrest relating to drug charges. They also did not know that he had previously been convicted on felony burglary, additional drug charges, and accessory to murder. And, worst of all, they did not know that he was in illegal possession of a weapon.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) announced that he will lead the first Cryptocurrency Town Hall, celebrating the innovators who lead the charge in developing cryptocurrencies and encouraging politically-engaged voters to participate in the growing digital asset transformation this campaign season.

“The United States has always been a world leader in technology and innovation. The development of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology are the next evolution of innovation that will permeate every aspect of our society. We’ve worked hard to educate federal officials – elected and unelected – on the importance of creating a regulatory and legal environment that allows these new technologies to take root and thrive. This event is designed to keep cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and all of the innovations in this space at the forefront of the discussion as we head into the election this November.”

Partnering with the Chamber of Digital Commerce PAC, the Crypto Town Hall will take place virtually on August 20 at 12:30 pm ET. It will feature Representative Emmer and leaders from the blockchain industry, including Jeremy Allaire, CEO of Circle, Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, Guy Hirsch, USA Managing Director at eToro, Stephen Pair, CEO of BitPay, Matthew Roszak, Chairman and Co-Founder of Bloq, and others as they discuss ways to keep the United States on the cutting edge of innovation.

“Congressman Emmer is a leading advocate for one of the most transformational industries in technology and finance. His vision and awareness of the tremendous positive innovation that blockchain technologies and cryptocurrencies are bringing to people, businesses and communities is critical in Washington, especially during this election season. This Town Hall event will be the first time our industry and voters across the country can come together to show the growing level of support and enthusiasm for cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology solutions,” said Perianne Boring, President and Founder of the Chamber of Digital Commerce and Treasurer of the Chamber’s PAC.

The Crypto Town Hall is open to the public and available on a first come, first served basis. All who are interested in cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology are encouraged to attend. Click here to register.

Congressman Emmer represents Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. #ThankACop: Rochester Police Department

Hope Fuse is a non-profit organization in Rochester, MN that helps connect young children with mentors, and they recently sponsored a day of fishing for children in their community and local Rochester Police Officers!

As Hope Fuse’s founder Manasseh Kambaki explained, the program was meant to help break down stereotypes and allow an opportunity for children to interact with local law enforcement officers: “We want to make sure that the kids understand that not all police officers may be what we see in the TV or the news, but there are good people out there. At the end of the day, police officers, myself and people in different career fields are humans. So the goal behind us partnering and collaborating together so that the youth can build that trust within our law enforcement.”
