EMMER ENDORSES STAUBER

Otsego, MN – Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) released the following statement on Pete Stauber, Congressional Candidate for Minnesota’s Eighth District:

“I am proud to endorse Pete Stauber in his campaign to be our next Congressman from Minnesota’s Eighth District. Pete is a born and raised Minnesotan who has dedicated his life to public service and his community. A former police officer, current county commissioner and father of five, Pete truly understands what Northern Minnesota families need and is ready to deliver.

“Pete was recently named one of the NRCC’s ‘On the Radar’ Young Gun candidates, proving he is a formidable opponent capable of winning his campaign. I am honored to support Pete Stauber in his 2018 campaign and look forward to serving with him in Congress on behalf of the great state of Minnesota.”

Two of My Bills Cleared Committee

Last November, Americans went to the polls and demanded we Make America Great Again. While the mainstream  media may not always tell you about our progress, we are working to make that goal a reality.

Last week, in the House Financial Services Committee we got a little closer to it. I am proud that two of my bills – the Micro Offering Safe Harbor Act and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Adjustment Act – were debated and earned support from the majority of my colleagues to pass out of committee.

How to Support “Made By Hand”

Last week was manufacturing week – a time dedicated to celebrate the men and women across the country in the manufacturing industry.

I may sound like a broken record, but the manufacturing industry is one of the two main drivers of our state’s economy. It accounts for more than 10 percent of our state’s private sector jobs and is responsible for nearly 15 percent of Minnesota’s GDP. According to the National Association of Manufacturers, this industry contributed more than $2 trillion to the U.S. economy last year.

Life is a Gift and a Value to Defend

On Tuesday, the House passed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to ban abortions
after 20 weeks. The unborn are the most vulnerable, and I was proud to cosponsor and vote for
this legislation that will protect the innocent.

To learn more about this important bill, read this op-ed by Chairman of the House Judiciary
Committee Bob Goodlatte.

As a father of seven, I am a proud supporter of life. I always have been, and always will be pro-
life and for as long as I serve in Congress, I will act to give a voice for those who are unable to
speak for themselves.

Emmer bill prohibits excluding federal land from mining

From The Duluth News Tribune:

U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., has introduced legislation that would prohibit the U.S. Forest Service from excluding any National Forest land from mining without approval from Congress.

The bill, HR 3905, also would prohibit the establishment of any national monuments in Minnesota without Congressional approval.

The bill also would restore mineral leases to Twin Metals, the company which had been planning to build a large underground copper mine along the Kawishiwi River near Ely. Similar legislation to restore those leases already has advanced in the House.

The bill is co-sponsored by U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson, D-Minn. And Rep. Jason Lewis, R-Minn. It does not apply to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness where mining is prohibited.

The bill is a reaction to a last-minute Obama administration move to withdraw the Twin Metals mineral leases and also exclude parts of the Superior National Forest from future mining until after a comprehensive environmental review is done on the impact of copper mining on the forest, including the BWCAW.
